Foundation receives donations and bequests from individuals and groups who have a belief that the Residence has been a definite asset to the community and wish to secure the future of this organization.
Most Common Methods of Giving:
In Honour or Memory:
A gift in honour or memory of a loved one is a meaningful way to say you care. These gifts honour their recipient while investing in the professional care and services for seniors in Chatham-Kent. Funeral homes will accept donations in memory, please speak to your Funeral Director for more information.
Planned Giving:
Planning a gift to the St. Andrew’s Residence, Chatham Foundation is the perfect way for you to be remembered. With planned giving you are essentially making a pledge to turn over a portion of certain funds or capital assets you currently own to the Foundation as part of your estate. The following outlines some of the ways you can make an effective gift in your estate plan which will benefit the Foundation and also offer tax saving benefits to your estate.
RRSP, RRIF:
You may choose to name St. Andrew’s Residence, Chatham Foundation as a direct beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF. Under this option, your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt for the full amount given, which fully offsets the tax charged to your estate due to this asset.
Will Bequests:
A bequest is any gift made in the “Last Will and Testament” of an individual. Upon your death, your estate is entitled to a donation receipt for the full value of your bequest gift, which could mean a significant tax credit on your final tax return.
Charitable Gift Annuity:
Under this arrangement, a donor makes a lump-sum contribution to the Foundation, which then purchases an annuity using a portion of the gift, from which the donor receives a guaranteed payment for the remainder of their life. The size of payments to the donor depends on donor’s age and size of their initial contribution. A sizeable portion of the income received from your non-registered gift annuity will be tax-free, and for older annuitants, totally tax free. Also, donors are immediately entitled to a charitable receipt for the portion of the lump-sum gift which remains following the purchase of the annuity.
Endowment:
Endowments are an especially rewarding way of giving, sometimes known as “everlasting gifts”. An endowment is a permanent investment fund where income only – not capital – is used to provide long term support to the Foundation. In this case, the performance of the investment is able to provide annual income which far exceeds the amount of the donor’s original gift. We recommend that you engage your financial and/or legal advisor to help create your endowment for the St. Andrew’s Residence, Chatham Foundation.
The success of the Foundation depends on your generous support. Your planned gift is an important source of long-term funding, providing ongoing support to keep St. Andrew’s future strong and secure. Your thoughtful gifts will help ensure that the St. Andrew’s Community will always be here to provide exceptional care and services to the seniors of Chatham-Kent.
